Investing in Local Food Production to Curb the Current Economic Upsurge

As food prices go up in Kenya, local food production could be the next option for most Kenyans to earn a living. Of late the prices of essential commodities such as milk, bread, wheat, sugar, unga and many other items have gone up in unpredictable manner. Majority including the government have no proper timing for restoring the economy of Kenya back to normal and therefore this raises a lot of concern as many struggle to put food on top of the table.

The Kenya farmers recommends local food production as one of the interim solutions to curb the current food crisis in the Nation. Some of these local food include;

  1. Cassava
  2. Potatoes
  3. Arrowroots
  4. Pumpkins
  5. Sorghum
  6. Banana

Most of these local food can do better in most part of the country including arid and semi-arid areas. We therefore encourage most farmers to venture into local food production as a way of supplementing essential commodities.
