Pig Farming Business Plan

by Kenya Farmers

Constructing your very own pig farming business plan can be quite a challenge to someone who is inexperienced in the field of managing livestock. Not only is it time-consuming, it is also incredibly difficult. It requires the right amount of skill, patience and perseverance in order to get your pig farm up and running in no time. Remember that a single pig can already provide an entire family with enough meat to last for a week, but it wouldn’t hurt if you aim higher by learning how to breed pigs for a living. Here are some tips you can follow if you want to have a successful pig farming business to rely on.

  1. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that doing the proper research is the first step to become a pig farmer. Venturing into the business without a single knowledge about raising pigs and maintaining a business is financially deadly. If you are serious about raising pigs for a living, you might want to spend some time in an actual farm wherein you can learn the tricks of the trade from people who are experts in what they do.
  2. While formulating a pig farming business plan, it is wise to write everything down. Bring a notebook with you wherever you go. You’ll never know when several great business-related ideas would pop into your head. You don’t want to forget ideas such as these.
  3. A pig farming business plan won’t be considered legal and official if it doesn’t have a license to support it. Your local government would be more than willing to supply your business with a permit. It also goes without saying that insuring your pig farm is also the best way to be ready for whatever financial disaster your business might encounter, so hire a skilled insurance agent as soon as possible.
  4. Start with piglets. Doing so will enable you to learn how to breed a pig right when they’re still young. Stock breeders will probably sell you a few piglets for a low price. You can even find a few from newspapers and some online auction sites.
  5. Once you have officially started what you have included on your pig farming business plan, make it a point to schedule proper feeding time for your pig. These animals will eat any edible product you give them, but giving them corn is said to be ideal if you want them to fatten up as fast as possible. You also might want to give them cooked meat and soybeans. Plenty of water is also important. Give them around three to four gallons in a day.
